Playing with friends
Mods that add survivors, items or enemies have to be on every player’s machine, at the same versions. If your setups differ, the game turns your friend away with a version mismatch. Some mods only need the host, and their page says so. Mods that only change your own screen are yours alone, and many carry Thunderstore’s client-side tag.
Give each group its own profile with that group’s mods, and switch before you join.
When Risk of Rain 2 updates
A big update can break mods for days or weeks.
Until your mods catch up, choose Play without mods to play the new version. Your profiles stay as they are, and Update all brings them current once the fixes land.
Your unlocks and progress
Risk of Rain 2 keeps your unlocks and progress in Steam’s own userdata folder, synced through
Steam Cloud, on Linux as well as Windows. Some mods can unlock content and achievements for
you, and Back up the folder before you try one. The backup brings your unlocks back, but an achievement Steam has recorded stays unlocked.

Getting started
- Download Pulsar and open it.
- Choose Add game and pick Risk of Rain 2. If it's installed through Steam, Pulsar finds it.
- Open Manage profiles and create a profile.
- In Browse catalog, pick your mods and choose Review install. Anything they depend on comes with them.
- Choose Play.

- Do my friends need Pulsar too?
- No. They need the host's mods at the same versions, however they install them.
- Do I need to install BepInEx first?
- No. Pulsar installs the BepInEx pack Risk of Rain 2 mods run on, along with your mods.
- Does it work on a Mac?
- No. Risk of Rain 2 is a Windows game, and Pulsar runs it on Windows and Linux.
