Playing with friends
Anything that adds monsters, moons, items or more players has to be on every player’s machine, at the same versions as the host’s. A version mismatch is the usual reason a friend can’t join. Mods that only change your own screen or sounds are yours alone. Their page usually says so, and many carry Thunderstore’s client-side tag.
Give each crew its own profile with that crew’s mods, and switch before you join.
When Lethal Company updates
A big update can break nearly every mod for weeks.
Steam keeps the last version on a beta branch called previous. In Steam, open the game’s Properties, then Betas, and pick it. Switch back once your mods support the new version. To play the new version with friends in the meantime, stay on it and choose Play without mods.
Saves and modded items
Adding, removing or updating a mod that adds items can swap or lose the items on your ship. Give each profile its own save slot, and back up the folder before you change mods on a run you care about.
